If your car in Georgia has body damage, dents, rust, a cracked windshield, or accident or storm damage, you can still donate it through Vision Wheels to benefit Heritage for the Blind. Cosmetic or structural body issues do NOT disqualify your vehicle. As long as we can arrange a pickup, we can accept it—running or not. From Atlanta and Marietta to Macon, Savannah, Augusta, Columbus, and the smaller towns in between, we’ll come to you and tow it away free of charge.
Here’s how it works: Heritage for the Blind accepts cars in any cosmetic condition. You do not need to fix broken glass, repair dents, or address rust or accident damage. After free pickup anywhere in Georgia—from Decatur, Sandy Springs, and Alpharetta to Valdosta, Rome, or Albany—your vehicle is sold. Your tax deduction is based on the actual sale price, not on how pretty the car looks. Heavier damage may mean it sells for less, so your deduction may be lower, but you are still guaranteed a tax receipt for at least $500. If it sells for more than $500, you’ll receive the proper IRS Form 1098‑C. It’s a straightforward, no-hassle way to turn a problem vehicle into real help for people who are blind or visually impaired.
How to get your free pickup scheduled
1. Tell us about your damaged Georgia vehicle
Share the basics: year, make, model, and where the car is located in Georgia—whether it’s in a driveway in Smyrna, on a street in Savannah, or at a shop in Athens. Be honest about dents, rust, cracked glass, or accident damage so we can plan the right tow truck. Cosmetic condition will not stop your donation.
2. Schedule your free Georgia pickup
Once we have your information, we’ll arrange free towing anywhere in Georgia. The car does not need to run, and you don’t have to repair any body damage. We’ll work around your schedule whether you’re in midtown Atlanta, South Fulton, Warner Robins, or a rural county. You’ll receive a pickup window and instructions for handing over the keys and title.
3. We tow the damaged vehicle at no cost to you
On pickup day, the tow driver handles loading your car—dented panels, cracked windshield, hail damage and all. There is no towing fee and no surprise charges. Even if it’s stuck in a carport in Augusta or parked behind an apartment complex in Decatur, we’ll work to safely remove it. You keep your driveway clear without paying for repairs or hauling.
4. Vision Wheels sells the car; Heritage for the Blind benefits
After pickup, Vision Wheels manages the sale process. The car might go to auction, a recycler, or a buyer who specializes in damaged vehicles. The sale price—after normal processing costs—supports Heritage for the Blind’s programs for people who are blind or visually impaired. Body damage simply means it may sell for less, not that it’s rejected.
5. You receive your Georgia tax receipt
Your deduction is based on the actual sale amount, not how the vehicle looks. You are guaranteed a receipt for at least $500. If the car sells for more than $500, you’ll receive the appropriate IRS documentation, including Form 1098‑C when applicable. You can share the receipt with your Georgia tax professional when you file your federal return.
Potential complications to watch for
Severe frame damage or missing wheels can affect towing
Tip: Cars with major frame bends, missing wheels, or crushed corners can almost always be picked up, but we may need special equipment. Be clear when you describe the damage so we send the right truck. This avoids rescheduling and keeps your pickup in Georgia on track the first time.
Title issues can delay your Georgia donation
Tip: In most of Georgia, you’ll need a clear title in your name to donate, even if the car is badly damaged. If the title is lost, contact the Georgia Department of Revenue or your local county tag office about getting a replacement before scheduling your tow. This simple step prevents legal and timing headaches.
Stored vehicles at shops or impound lots may have fees
Tip: If your damaged car is sitting at a body shop, storage yard, or impound lot in places like Duluth or Macon, they may charge storage or release fees. Those charges are usually your responsibility. Check with the facility in advance so they’ll release the vehicle to our tow driver without last‑minute surprises.
Excess personal items left in the vehicle
Tip: Even if the car is totaled or the doors barely open, remove personal belongings, paperwork, and plates before pickup. Tow drivers aren’t responsible for cleaning out vehicles. Taking ten minutes to clear the trunk and glovebox makes the process smoother and ensures you don’t lose anything important in your Georgia donation.
